We design homes, apartments and small hospitality spaces across Kenya and Tanzania, from the first site visit to the last cushion. One team and one fixed design fee, agreed before we start.

The studio

A small studio with a long memory for detail.

Tawi means branch. We started in 2016 drawing furniture for friends in Lavington, and we still work that way: a few projects at a time, drawn by hand first, built with joiners we have known for years.

We like deep colour, local timber and rooms that get better at night. We do not like surprises on the invoice.

How a project works

Five steps. No guesswork.

  1. We come to you, measure every room and listen. You get a written brief and a fixed design fee within three days.

  2. Two directions for colour, materials, furniture and light. Boards you can hold in the studio, not just a PDF.

  3. Drawings, joinery details, a lighting plan and a line-by-line budget. Nothing is ordered until you sign it off.

  4. Our site lead runs the fundis, joiners and deliveries, and sends you photos and a short report every Friday.

  5. Art, textiles, plants and the last cushion. You get a care guide for every finish, and we come back after three months.

Every project starts with a paid consultation. The fee is credited back if you go ahead with us.

Design consultation

Two hours at your home or in the studio, walking through what to keep, change and spend on.

A 1970s lounge, opened back up to the garden. We kept the step, lost the carpet and laid mvule on top.
